Our first module was about first impressions. Some say that "first impressions last." So if you see a person well-dressed and formal-looking the first time you meet him/her, then that first impression - some indelible mark that will make you remember that person - will stay the next time you meet him/her. While others see a person as progressive - that the first "time" will always be different and will eventually develop or change into a better one as time progresses. This different outlook as you get to know the person more subjectively and closely is called the real impression. There are some cases though that first impressions are also your real impressions about some person.
Well, this is a subjective matter! But what is important is first impressions matter a lot in knowing a person.
Our activity this week is a classic "first impressions" activity used for groups. I hope you had a fun time writing your first impressions about your classmates/friends, and at the same time, writing your real impressions about them.
Discussion Questions:
- Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
- What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
- What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?

First impression doesn't really matter to me. In my opinion, you get to know more about a person everyday you meet him/her and spend time together.
Impression:
I know that studying in the Ateneo requires a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears. HAHA!
It's getting harder and harder everyday. I believe managing time and setting priorities are really important. I think hard work, sweat, and PRAYERS are really required for survival.
True, Darwin. For me, first impressions do not really matter (simple because I forget...hahaha). But then, what's more important is what you discover about the person every time you are with him/her.
Hell weeks are coming sooooo...wala lang. Chill lang! And enjoy the stress.
1. Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
Yup, it is for me 'cause you get something about someone but this shouldn't govern the whole impression of that person. You've got to really know him/her first.
2. What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
Eye opening...It's like a huge reminder that this isn't high school anymore. haha!
3. What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?
Nice and difficult. But over all it's been really fun.
enjoy stress? hahaha
cguro first impressions are important din kc un ung parang judging factor ng isang tao if he'll interact with you or what. dba they say na dapat laging maganda ang first impression? esp. when ur applying for a job or what. so for me, important ang first impression.
alam ko na studying here in The Ateneo would be difficult and stuff. when i arrived here, nakita ko na parang chill lang ang mga tao i think kasi wala pa ang start ng classes. i thought it was gonna be super fun din especially sa dorm.
after 3 months. ang bilis lang pala ng 3 months! nalaman ko na HARD nga dito pero kaya naman. its just that its really different form high school kc sa high school kahit na you dont study a lot, nakakapasa ka naman. dito talagang kailangan mong mag-aral. sobraaang fuuuun din dito. i did not regret choosing to study here. i have to adjust more pa to this kind of life so i hope kaya ko pa. hahaha
1. no, first impressions don't really matter to me. they dont exactly show who you really are. i think what's important is what the person thinks of you after he/she gets to know you.
2. my first impression of college life here in ateneo: it wasn't going to be like high school. or at least my high school. we used to be only 11 in my class, so i knew it would be different. i think that i just got so used to all 10 of my classmates, like we were all so alike and all, and our teachers werent exactly strict. we could complain all we want about having too much work to do and they wouldnt get mad or anything. i knew ateneo was going to be different.
3. After 3 months of being a student in ateneo, im really starting to feel the pressure..(?) lessons are getting harder, so i HAVE to study harder too. it's been tiring. exactly like what i thought! nothing like high school. i cant go out as much as i did during my high school days, so yeah. still adjusting but i THINK i'll make it. haha
yeah. i kinda agree with julienne about the job interview thing. you need to impress your interviewers so that they get a good impression on you. but then, outside the professional world, just be yourself. like what lyka says, what's more important is what you discover about the person after.
first impressions on admu life are really subjective. they're dependent on many factors. i thought before green archers like me aren't welcomed in admu. but then, i realized that lsgh and admu-ls are more likely the same. we're still spoiled. just exciting coz there are hot girls already. haha.
if you're stressed, what do you do? enjoy the stress! yun lang yun mga bro!
First impressions doesn't really have an impact on me, coz I believe in the saying that "Don't judge a book by its cover", and I agree with what Dar said, you'll get to know the person more if you spend more time together :D.
Impression of College Life in Ateneo:
I thought of college life here in THE Ateneo would be something more serious compared to the college life in DLSU, coz my batchmates told me that they're always drunk and partying! hahahaha. Just kidding. To be honest, I didn't think much about what would college life look like in THE Ateneo, I'm just looking forward to spend the best time of my life here, just like what Rizal said :P. Based on the first few days in THE ATeneo, I thought it would be like High School kase chill lang hahah, not that much work load.
Real Impression:
I'm dead wrong, hindi na sa chill hahaha, like yesterday, we're bombarded with work loads T.T . Maybe its a wake up call for me that I must start to take things seriously.
1. They're not important since they're just that. first impressions. what would be important is what you learn from them and understand as you get to know them better.
2. I first thought that college life in Ateneo would be boring since most of the people I know who study there are tightups. :))
3. ITS EXCITING AND FUN! :D
1. Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
First impressions are important to me because thats what sticks out in your head when you meet a person. Then if you get a good impression then thats when you know you and the person could be friends.
2. What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
My first impression was that ateneo would be difficult.
3. What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?
Its fun, and makes you live a balanced lifestyle.
first impression doesn't matter to me because it's always the opposite of the first impression that's really true once you really get to know the person. i agree with macky 'don't judge a book by its cover' :)
first impression of college would be... like ica, STRESS STRESS and STRESS :))
it's true, STTTTRRRREEEEEESSSSSSSS nga hahaha! but fun at the same time rin! :)
First impression for me is a big deal because I believe that first impressions last for a long time . It will serve a basis to that person's true personality.
My first impression about the college life here in the Ateneo is simply hard and challenging.
After 3 months, I think studying here is getting tougher as weeks go by. So I really need to exert effort now.
First impressions are important to me but they are not as important as the ones that are made in the long run. It is only when I open myself to others that I get the chance to really know who that person is. Sometimes, it takes people more time to warm up or to feel comfortable with others.
My first impression of college was that it was going to be challenging but exciting.
I still think that it is challenging but exciting at the time. I have so much "freedom" to do what i want unlike high school.
very impressive insights! at such a young age, you guys have good ideas about impressions. good job!
Carlos has a good point. You can use first impressions as spring board for making friends. But then, that should not govern your perception of people. You get what I mean? Labo. But then like what most of you guys said, what matters is how you discover the real person.
hahaha. dagdagan natin work load niyo for intact!!! game? LOL.
sands and macky, i know you guys are really responsible soooo stress is just normal for you, i guess. LOL. and anong ginagawa kapag stressed ka na? MAGPAKASTRESS KA PA!!!! Hahaha. Chill lang! Mag-figaro muna kayo!
[But guys, AdMU is a really good school...if not, the BEST!!! Trust the archer who was an archer since kindergarten and he's your SF...LOL. AdMU is challenging but really FUN and you'll learn a lot.]
first impressions don't really bother me that much. and what peepo said, what would be important is what you learn from them and understand as you get to know them better.
i thought i would have a hard time adjusting since i came from the other school. haha!
ateneo is really a nice school to be in. i have to accept the fact that im an atenean now and start hating la salle! HAHA!
1. Not really. First impressions hardly show who a person really is. It takes time to get to know a person very well.
2. During the first few days of college, I was still relaxed. I was spending most of my time hanging out with my friends [our form of preparation for the hell weeks to come]. College seemed fun during those times and we still had the enthusiasm to go to school.
3. With all the academic and non-academic things I've been doing, I'd still say that college is fun. It does get tiring at times but having friends to talk to and to laugh with afterwards makes everything better. [Free cuts and no-class days make it a lot more fun :)]
its not important. Its how you bond or spend time together.
Chill lang and act just like high school
Its time to work hard.
1. Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
- No..... first impressions are just first impressions . . . . they may be true but there is always the bigger chance that they are wrong....
2. What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
-hmmmm... enjoyable....... and difficult in terms of academics..
3. What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?
-It is fun.... free time, free cuts but it is still hard... especially the academic part...
Nope, they don't really matter. In time they change. And so do people. So hyup, get to spend time with people more often, to catch a glimpse of who they really are, so you can perceive a real impression that will last.
Ateneo: Um... First impression a school full of snobby mataray people. HAHAHA. Kasi! Everyone kept saying so...so yeah TERROR. And during the campus tour, NOBODY SMILED!!! [-(
And yeah, stress and pressure and hardwork and serious environment...Full of serious people.
But yeah I was wrong!
Loving it now! :D
Yeahyeahyeah!
Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?
First impressions are important because these are the things that you notice about a person right when you meet them. But more often than not, they're usually wrong.
First impression of college life in the Ateneo... super fun BUT super daming work!
Adjusting really well to life here in Ateneo. It is a lot of stress and work but still really fun at the same time.
:)
first impressions are important because they get our attention once we meet someone but they shouldnt affect our total impression of a person.
my first impression of college life here in the ateneo is that it's hard but also rewarding.
now, i have proven that it's hard but it's also really rewarding when random people ask you about your college and you tell them that you go to the Ateneo de Manila. they immediately look up to you. haha.
First impressions sometimes matter because these impressions could actually be the "real impressions" as well. So watch out! :P
In Ateneo, I know that it will not be as easy back in highschool so I must study harder and aim high! MAGIS!
After three months, WOW. Haha. College life isn't THAT bad except for Sir Bataller. Block P is GREAT! Wohoo. I just wish our block could be more bonded SOMEHOW.
i also wish the same for your block, Akiko.
i think i told you during your consultation that soon in time you'll get used to your math prof. ;)
1. No 'cause we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.
2. it's boring
3. it's not boring
I think that giving a good first impression is really important in knowing how people think about you, although this changes throughout the time you spend together.
My first impression of college life here in Ateneo is that things will be very different from what was in highschool, i really have to work harder again
After 3 months, i really have to work and study harder, i have a lot of catching up to do..
