College Experience Synthesis

To wrap up our discussion on college experience, you are supposed to submit this homework with the following guidelines on August 27, Wednesday, during InTACT class:
  • On a clean sheet of LONG (8.5 x 13 inches) BOND PAPER OR BOARD (just like what we used during your First Impressions activity), create a caricature or simply draw (realistically or abstractly) or feel free to create an artwork about your block (Section SS).
  • The only requirement here is that you should represent your block with all 32 students.
  • You may use any medium you want - paint, pastel, crayons, markers, etc.
  • You may also want to go digital. Create your artwork on photoshop or any photo editing/creating program.
  • Be as creative!
  • As much as possible avoid submitting just a printed photo of your block. Our goal here is to see how you represent your block in your own creative way.
  • Let your wildest imaginations work!
This will serve as your attendance for next week.

Also, on FRIDAY, the Study Skills Profiles are due. You may submit them to your InTACT beadles (Macky and Sands) or you may personally place them inside my locker - B2110 2nd floor, Berch Hall.

Some of you opted to schedule a consultation with me about your advisory marks. These consultations will be done on August 27-29. This is NOT REQUIRED because a required consultation (equivalent to one InTACT session) with your Homeroom Adviser will be scheduled.
  • Make sure that you have seen your advisory marks already before consulting.
  • I will not show you your advisory marks. We will base the consultation with what you have.
  • As a STUDENT (not as a facilitator), I will try to pinpoint your points of development in your academic endeavors.
If you feel that you don't need to consult about your grades, DO NOT CONSULT! This is a support system here, guys!

I hope you guys enjoyed our College Experience module for this semester!

Advisory Marks Discussion

Advisory Marks are an approximation of the grades of a freshman midway into the semester. This is similar to what is often referred to as "class standing" back in the high school.

They are the weighted average of the course requirements that have been given so far (until the end of July). It measures your class performance and participation so far.

Quality Point Index (QPI):

3.16

To compute for your QPI:

  1. Get the total of your Raw Scores (50.5 in the example).
  2. Get your total units (16 in the example).
  3. Divide total raw score by total number of units.
  4. You get your QPI (3.16 in the example).
Some important notes:
  • The required QPI to be promoted to second year is 1.80.
  • If you want to be in the Dean's List, your QPI must be 3.35 and above.
  • A grade of * (asterisk) means your teacher hasn't submitted your advisory mark yet.
Five points to improve your grades:
  1. Don't be a procrastinator. Do work in advance. Set priorities and goals!
  2. Don't be shy. Recite in class!
  3. Take advantage of your prof's consultation hours. Consult!!!
  4. Do group study!
  5. If you're really dead meat, get help from outside (tutor, tutorial center, etc.)!

Online Assignment for Wednesday Group

Those who attended InTACT's Wednesday session, you have to answer these reflection questions from this week's module to synthesize our discussion on the importances of first experiences in college:
  1. By now, you would have already experienced a hell week in your college life. What can you say about your FIRST hell week experience as freshmen? What did you feel about it? What things did you need to compromise/give up to fulfill your responsibilities during that hell week?
  2. What, for you, is the importance of initiative (taking the first step; initiating action) in a group of people working together?

SF Consultation Evals

Block P

Kindly answer truthfully and honestly the evaluations for your consultations with me.
They will be given to you by your very responsible beadles, Sands and Macky.
And please give them back to your beadles after answering.

These evaluations will measure the effectiveness of the consultations and at the same time determine the strengths and weaknesses of your SF during the individual/group consultations.

College Experience (Part 1)

We are now on the second block of our InTACT program for this semester. We will be dealing with your college experience - something everyone can relate to but in a myriad of ways - for the next three weeks.

Our first module was about first impressions. Some say that "first impressions last." So if you see a person well-dressed and formal-looking the first time you meet him/her, then that first impression - some indelible mark that will make you remember that person - will stay the next time you meet him/her. While others see a person as progressive - that the first "time" will always be different and will eventually develop or change into a better one as time progresses. This different outlook as you get to know the person more subjectively and closely is called the real impression. There are some cases though that first impressions are also your real impressions about some person.

Well, this is a subjective matter! But what is important is first impressions matter a lot in knowing a person.

Our activity this week is a classic "first impressions" activity used for groups. I hope you had a fun time writing your first impressions about your classmates/friends, and at the same time, writing your real impressions about them.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Are first impressions important to you? Why or why not?
  2. What is your first impression of college life here in the Ateneo?
  3. What now is your impression of college in the Ateneo after three months of being a student here?

We barely have a month for InTACT this semester. So let's make the most out of it. Below is our calendar of activities for the remaining month:
